How much auto paint do i need?

i have a 4-door 64 ford galaxie 500, it has the original paint on it so i was wondering what kind of paint(primer, clear coat) and how much i need? thank youHow much auto paint do i need?
It depends on how rough the body is and are you changing color. If the paint has a bunch of little cracks, like a spiders web, in it, the car has to be sanded down to bare metal. Then the metal needs a chemical prep, to kill the corrosion you can't sand out. Those little black stains come back to haunt you, trust me!

In 1964 they used lacquer paint. Unless this car was garage kept and always had a good coat of wax on it, it's checked.

After treating the metal, the car gets sprayed with sealer. Then primer, then paint, then clear coat if you go 2 stage.

What I'm trying to say is, get more information. Learn a little, before you get screwed. A quickie paint job will last a season or 2. Then the car looks like crap, again!

Your best bet is to take the car to the local vocational college, and have it used as a teaching aid. All you pay for is the materials. And believe me, they're going to cost.

I have a '63 Impala, '79 T/A, '82 Hurst Olds and a small block S-10. My last '64 Galaxie had a 352. Been there, done that. And keep going back for more. My kids are cheaper! How much auto paint do i need?
most likely a gallon of each. Your best bet is basecoat, clearcoat finish. If the finish is dinged up pretty bad you'll want to use the Mar-hyde automotive primer. The primer, basecoat, and clearcoat each has its own thinners (reducers), and hardeners (catalysts). It will not be cheap, at least $600 in materials alone. If you're doing a color change you will need a gallon and half of paint to do the door jams and the doors' insides as well as the trunk inside.
