I went to the Mercedes dealership and they offered me Auto Armor paint protection for my car. ?

Does anyone know anything about this? Is there some way to purchase this at a location other than the dealership? The dealership was charging $1500. Thank youI went to the Mercedes dealership and they offered me Auto Armor paint protection for my car. ?
What do you need that for. Your car already has it. It is called clear coat and it is applied when they paint the car at the factory. The dealer is ripping you $1500.00 or a glorified wax job. Lexus dealers do it for $300-$390 which means you can probably do it yourself for about $ 50.00

And if it is so good, why do you have to reapply it every six months. Any good quality car wax does exactly the same job.I went to the Mercedes dealership and they offered me Auto Armor paint protection for my car. ?
i don't really think you need it. they just want you to pay more.

plus, mercedes paint usually lasts very long...my friend has a mercedes from the 80's with still perfect paint.

Earl Schelb paint & body vs. Maaco collision repair & auto painting?

I have an 04 convertible mustang thats white and I've been looking for a decent paint job thats inexpensive and so far Earl Schelb and Maaco are the most known relatively inexpensive auto shops around, that I know of, so which is better overall? ... I live in Anaheim, California or Orange County if you don't know of anaheim. Thanx!Earl Schelb paint %26amp; body vs. Maaco collision repair %26amp; auto painting?
hmmm...between the 2 I would go with Earl Scheib because I've heard too many horror stories about Maaco. In either case, you should check with the BBB and other places about customer complaints before spending your hard earned money on a paint job.

You might also consider visiting a local mustang club during a meet. The people there will have information about where you can get a good paint job to fit your budget. Also, hot rod paint %26amp; body shops give good paint jobs but they'll be more expensive than earl or maaco.Earl Schelb paint %26amp; body vs. Maaco collision repair %26amp; auto painting?
The old adage ';you get what you pay for'; is applicable here. There are many good auto body shops that can give you a really good paint job for a bit more money than either Earl or Maaco. The biggest rap on both of the economy auto painters is the preparation and without proper prep, the job won't last.

The truth is you'll be hard pressed to match the original paint job on any car but a local body shop with a good reputation is a far better bet than either of the econo painters. You do want this paint job to last longer than a couple of years don't you? Spend a little more now and be far more satisfied later.

Not that familiar with the shops in your area but try asking around at some of the major insurance companies or local car clubs to get some recommendations, then get some estimates and go from there.
Quite honestly, I've been wondering the same question, I've never heard of Earl Schelb, and I hear Maaco is s***. So I guess Earl gets my vote lol.

  • How do i use auto touch-up paint?

I have a few scratches on my car, and want to use the little can that came w it to touch them up. Is there any tricks to make it look more natural? It always looks odd to me...How do i use auto touch-up paint?
fill in the scratches with the paint, let it dry for at least 72 hrs (you may drive it, just don't wash it or wax it. After 72 hours use a LIGHT rubbing compound and rub the scratch until smooth with surrounding paint, get a tiny bottle of clear coat from parts store and do it again.

Do those Auto-Armour protective coverings for car paint make sense or are they a ripoff?

I am buying a new car, and that is one of the aftermarket options. It makes sense to spend a little to keep the paint looking good, but does this covering look good and keep the paint as good as it claims, or am I just better off repainting in a few years?Do those Auto-Armour protective coverings for car paint make sense or are they a ripoff?
Just about all cars now days are Clear Coated and that is usually all you need. Anything else is just a way for them to make money. IF you live next to Satlwater (beach) so to say, it may help OR it may not as salt will eat just about anything anyway. I would not waste my money as Clear Coating is STANDARD anymore.Do those Auto-Armour protective coverings for car paint make sense or are they a ripoff?
The reason we have a clear coat was to protect the paint and give it a high gloss finish. Paint manufactures these days add very little to the actual paint make up to protect it from the elements. The clear coat adds durability and shine to most all factory painted cars. The government forced paint manufactures to remove harmful additives from their formulas which weakened the paints durability and gloss. The Armour Shields that are offered by new car dealers is a good idea if you don't do any regular waxing or polishing to your car.A Teflon based product that is very tough on UV rays, acid rain, bird droppings

and all other air pollutants that can cause your cars finish to dull. The only problem with that is if your car is in an accident and needs a new body panel , it has to be re-finished with the same Teflon coating. Its possible the product no longer is offered by the dealer or is available through another shop at a greater price.

    Good Luck...
you would probably be better off just using a wax like meguiars nxt generation and save yourself some money

How much is an auto paint job around baton rouge?

They are pretty much the same price everywhere. If you are talking a total repaint, you are probably looking around 1500-2500$ depending on where you get it done and how nice you want it to look in the end. Just remember, you get what you pay for meaning if you only pay like 700 for a paint job, it's going to look pretty bad. Another thing to take into consideration is how in-depth you want them to get. For instance....if you want it a different color, what about the insides of the doors, the underside of the hood and trunk, the engine bay. It will cost you ALOT more if you are switching colors rather than just leaving it the original color.

I am having a hard time learning to mix auto body paint, please help?

having a hard time understanding how to mix in parts, based on 4 parts primer, 1 part catalyst, and 1 part thinner....how do you measure in parts based on this infoI am having a hard time learning to mix auto body paint, please help?
It's whatever you want to use as a ';part.'; If you use 1/2 cup to be your ';1 part,'; then you will use four 1/2 cups (a total of 2 cups) for the primer.

Where can i find a good, cheap, auto shop to remove paint?

I am thinking of painting my car a new color, but first i must remove all the paint and its too much of a hassle. Does anyone know where there is a cheap place in the los angeles area where they will do a good job, and at a very affordable price?? Thank You for your help!!Where can i find a good, cheap, auto shop to remove paint?
I am not from the LA area so I cannot recommend a shop. You should be aware however that it is not necessary to remove the existing paint just to change the color. If the existing finish is in good condition the only thing you should have to do is apply sealer which seals the older paint and color and then prep and apply the new color. This would still be more expensive than repainting with the old color since you may want to paint the door jams, under the trunk, and under the trunk lid. This takes a lot of prep and can be expensive.
