Finding color code of unknown custom auto-body paint?

I bought a car and its apparent that the color of it is custom because it doesn't match the color code number printed on the car. Whats the best way to find out the color code?Finding color code of unknown custom auto-body paint?
Go to an auto supply store that sells Dupont brand paint. They should have a little computerized camera that can print out a formula to mix the color.

It probably won't give a factory color code, but it will allow you to get paint for repairs that should be a close ';blendable'; match.Finding color code of unknown custom auto-body paint?

Take something in that has that color on it. They can match it with the computer.
I agree with dodgeman except I have never seen a little thing pressed on the paint. Where I do business a chip of paint is required and they put it in the computerized machine which then will print them out a formula for that particular color. It generally is pretty darn close if not exact! The problem you run into is fading and its very difficult to do just touch up on an older paint job.
take it to a paint store that has the computer system that they can use a small gun on it and it will match it up ,they take and press the small unit on the paint and then plug it in to a computer and it will tell what color it is, and give the mixture for mixing more like it,i have had to use this method a few times ,but its the best way to match the paint up,good luck i hope this help,s.
