I have a white, '97 Pontiac Grad Prix GT.
I don't know too much about cars, but people have told me that my clear coat is starting to come off. The top of the car is starting to get this blackish/gray cloudy look to it and it feels rougher in these spots. The hood of the car is having similar issues. The side of my car is starting to get the blackish/gray cloud look on the top of it as well. It's like a disease and its working its way down my car. Also, any advice on where I should take it, along with what kind of fees to expect, would be welcomed. How much would an auto paint job cost me?
You didn't indicate where you live.
West coast..go to Earl Sheib......east coast...Maaco is typically the cheapest.....both advertise nationally..as costing as little as 299.00...keep in mind...the higher the quality... the higher the price. How much would an auto paint job cost me?
At least you gave good accuate information. The paint is detoriating. Sounds like an old paint job with a defective clear from the factory. The paint has to come off, it has to be sanded to the bare metal, pretty much all over the car. You don't say if there's any dents. However, the sanding process is a long drawn out process. A complete paint job like that will run, on the average, about $3200, for good quality pain. You don't say what state you live in or what city you're close to, etc. That makes it difficult. Shop around, get five or six estimates. Ask around about the reputations of the shops that you're interested in and then make a good sound judgment from that. Bring it to a good reputable paint and body shop and ask for an estimate on removing the paint and a complete paint job with good quality clear coat with a good UV protector built into the clear coat and that should take care of you.
just cover your car with duct tape genious it might make it look like a deloreon
