i've recently detailed my car now i've noticed blotchy light discoloration on hte paint how do i remove? How to remove discoloration in auto paint?
Depends on where the discoloration is.
If it's in the surface layer, i.e. clearcoat, it *could* be clearcoat separation from the real paint underneath. A body shop should be able to tell you at a glance, or a dealer. If the vehicle is less than 5 years old, it may be a known problem and there may be hidden warranty to take care of it (i.e. repaint for free). How to remove discoloration in auto paint?
you can try scratch remover or 2000-3000 grit sandpaper. I would try the scratch remover first but you should be safe with super fine wet/dry sandpaper. It sounds like you need to strip a very fine layer of paint where the discoloration is( a very fine layer only )
1. rubbing compounds arent safe for todays paints
2. dont wetsand if youve never have before, cause the only way youll get those wetsand marks out is with a rotary buffer, and you can easily burn through your paint with those, since they have no clutch like a dual action buffer
3. how did you 'detail' your car
you shouldve fixed those problems when you detailed it..
Depends. Hard to say without looking at it. Maybe buffing it with polish. Maybe you will need to ramp up to lite or heavy compound. You could even need some wet-sanding or a paint job. Are the blotches where tree sap was after removal. Did something drip or leak onto the paint like rusty or ';mineralized'; water(water dripping from cracks in concrete or stone). Damage from bird crap.
Try a little rubbing compound you can find at any car parts store such as auto zone napa carquest maybe even walmart. Make sure to follow instructions and be sure to wax afterwards...Good luck
