Hows Earl Shieb vs. Macco Auto Paint shop?

Whats better? I dont have too much money and i need a simple paint job. Macco said they will give the $400 special which will look pretty good.

Anyone know how Earl Shieb is and what price or paint job will be good.

i am a professional bodyman and have been for 30 years. i want you to do some math, when i paint a car, the materials i buy, my price is about $400.00. the standard flat rate for painting a car is between 16 and 19 hours at about $50.00/hr. buffing the car which is necessary on almost all paint jobs these days because of paint formulation will be another 8 hrs. i have no personal experience with these companys but i did have a manager once who managed one and what he told me was pretty frightning qualitywise. i also knew a guy who had it done and his paint blew off the first time he washed it. from what i was told is they have their own paint, which is poor quality, they have a very limited amount of materials they are allowed to use, which is not enough to adequately prep your car, they are on strict time limits. they do not buff, they barely mask. i was told that the basic package is almost break even for them and crap for you, but they rely on upsale once you're in the door. they probably spray well, they do alot of it, but prep is the name of the game. prep it yourself including fine masking and you might get a nice job, but make sure you're getting decent paint.Hows Earl Shieb vs. Macco Auto Paint shop?
As Gary said...neither are really any good. All they do for 3-400.00 is a quick scuff sand, tape, mask, paint and bake with single stage paint....no clear coat and usually lots of runs, drips and overspray. Save your money for a real paint job or sell the car...a good quality job runs around 2-3000.00.
Macco used to be better. But it all depends on the shop. I have seen some really good paint jobs from both and some really bad ones.
It's not cheap. It never was, and it never will be. Expect to shell out a couple thousand minimum just for a decent paint job.
